One of my favorite parts of the product development process is choosing the fabric for our pattern cover samples. One fabric designer that we work with often is Marcia Derse. Marcia uses saturated colors and natural materials as her tools for creating gorgeous fabric, the designs which are unique in the fabric world. You always know if it is a Marcia Derse print! Last year we used a combination of her prints to create the chevron design on our Travel Tech Pouch. The colors of her cottons coordinated perfectly with our Crossroads Denim. We also used one of Marcia's prints as the lining for the solid version of the pouch. This year we featured Marcia's fabric on two of our new pattern covers: The Sophia Swing Coat and the Origami Apron. For the Sophia Swing Coat we used her Black & White collection. The stripe was used for the main body, but we added a little visual interest to the back by using the contrasting scallop. Here is Amy and Marcia at Spring Quilt Market 2015 checking out the Sophia Swing Coat! The Origami Apron was a perfect canvas for Marcia's fabric - especially since it is reversible! On one side we paired two prints from her Botanicals collection. On the reverse of the apron we featured the same fabric that was shown on the band and straps. Marcia's fabric is available through Windham Fabrics. Find them at your local fabric shop, or find them online. Have you ever worked with Marcia's fabric? What did you create?
