We are excited to share with you our new technique video on sewing an easy and professional bias neckline facing!

Screen Shot 2015-11-12 at 10.30.56 AM

At Indygo Junction, we love garment sewing - but it can be tricky to sew a perfect neckline facing. This technique, which is featured in our Gathered Back Top & Tunic pattern, is a simple but very effective way to create a smooth, professional finish.

Join IJ team member Betsy Blodgett as she walks you through the bias facing steps, from shaping the bias with an iron to the final stitching.

Screen Shot 2015-11-12 at 10.28.46 AM

This technique can be used with many different garments styles. We even recently hacked our own pattern and used this technique to create a sleeveless top!

This technique is also great to use if you are sewing with finer garment fabrics, such as double gauze, silk, voile, rayon or lawn as shown below.

We love sharing techniques with you to help you become a better, more professional sewist! Please let us know what techniques or skills would you like to see future Indygo Junction videos on?

Very pretty.

I was so excited about the new shaping tip for bias facing that I missed the main question. I would like some help on altering the line of the neckline in a pattern like the gathered back pattern. That neckline is a little low for me.

I have done garment sewing for many years and have used bias facings for many different applications. However, I have never thought to pre-shrink/press the binding to match the opening before applying. A great tip. Thanks.
