Guest Designer for International Association of Quilters Night Sky Mystery Quilt!

I'm pleased to share that this year I am a guest designer for the International Association of Quilters! I'm sharing a fun project for the month on their site, available exclusively to International Association of Quilters members at this time, and I'm contributing a quilt block to the Mystery Night Sky Quilt that members are sewing throughout the year.

When I was looking for inspiration for this block, the first place I turned was my Vintage Notions Coloring Book, Quilt Therapy! This collection of quilt blocks was created using The Ladies Art Company Block Catalog from 1921. It was the first company to publish a catalog containing hundreds of quilt block patterns with a different name or title attributed to each design, and was the most employed reference for quilt pattern names in America.

After perusing through all of the blocks and quilt designs I featured in Quilt Therapy, I finally settled on the Railroad Block. I like this block because it's a traditional American quilt block, but depending on the fabric and colors you chose, it can be a very Vintage Made Modern quilt block as well (see the photo of the block on the PDF in solids).

This block is suitable for all skill levels! If you've never sewn a quilt block before, this would be a great one to start with! We've included a downloadable PDF with the pattern, and tips and tricks!

When you download the pattern you might notice that we include an image of a Quilt Block Purse. The purse pattern is an inspirational way to feature vintage quilt blocks, orphan blocks in your personal quilt collection, or just quilt blocks you love!

The Quilt Block Purse Pattern is available exclusively to IAQ members. When you join, you have access to not only the pattern I'm contributing, but the library of quilt and project patterns in IAQ from 2015 until now!

My Vintage Notions Coloring Book Series is more than Quilt Therapy! You can also color your way through 150 vintage pattern illustrations with Vintage Notions: Pattern Play.

Enjoy playing fashion designer with Vintage Notions: Fashion Therapy, which has more than 150 rare vintage illustrations published in the 1920's, the era of "Downton Abbey" for you to escape into for some refreshing and relaxing!

All of the Vintage Notions Coloring Books include vintage wisdom as well as fun quotes to make you smile!

This looks like a very easy version to do. I’m a beginner quilter and I’m looking for simple!

If you click on the word PDF in the paragraph that starts out “This block is suitable…”, the pattern will pop up.
